A Crowdfunding Story: March 18th
For the Çanakkale Martyrs’ Memorial, a contest was run by the ministry of national defense in 1944 and a project was selected. However, due to financial impossibilites, the project could not be started. In 1952, a charity committee formed from voluntary participants began collecting support from the people for building the monument. The idea of building a monument was so accepted by the community that the campaign launched by the milliyet newspaper and the committee reached support from many sectors of society. By emphasizing a few of these support stories, we tell how Çanakkale Martyrs’ Memorial was built together.
